Port of Prince Rupert Partnership Export & Investment Strategy

Stands out because it produced tangible, lasting tools: investment attraction materials, partner alignment frameworks, and a live community-accessible funding database. That last piece especially, because communities can keep using it independently long after the engagement ended. Real staying power.

In this story

Unify worked alongside Indigenous communities and the Port of Prince Rupert to support the development of an export strategy focused on value-added production and supply chain participation.

The work began with engagement across communities and regional partners to understand economic priorities, supply chain opportunities, and barriers to entering export markets. This ensured the approach reflected community goals and long-term development plans.

Building on these discussions, we co-developed a strategy that identified priority sectors, clarified supply chain roles, and outlined practical steps for moving from opportunity to implementation. Research and analysis were used to assess where communities could participate in value-added production and which partnerships would be most relevant.

The project produced several practical tools to support long-term implementation:

    • Tailored investment attraction materials to engage potential partners and investors,
    • Partner alignment frameworks to structure collaboration between communities and industry, and
    • A live, community-accessible funding database to track and pursue relevant funding opportunities.

These tools were designed to be used independently by communities, increasing their readiness to pursue investment on their own terms.

The strategy positioned Indigenous communities near the Port of Prince Rupert to pursue export-focused economic growth while maintaining local ownership, cultural alignment, and long-term economic sustainability. The tools and frameworks developed through this project continue to support partnership development and investment readiness across the region.
